Facebook with new Identity : Meta
At Connect 2021, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced Meta, which brings together apps like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and technologies under one new company brand. Meta’s focus will be to bring the metaverse to life and help people connect, find communities and grow businesses. So lets Check out Facebook with new Identity, Meta.
What is Metaverse
The metaverse will feel like a hybrid of today’s online social experiences, sometimes expanded into three dimensions or projected into the physical world. It is a virtual internet world where you are known by your virtual 3D avatar. You could be anyone there, irrespective of your original identity in real world. You can correlated this better if you have seen the movie “Ready Player One“, by well known director Steven Spielberg. In this movie, Virtual World creator, James Halliday designs a virtual reality and hides the keys to his fortune in it for a worthy player to find after his death.
Facebook is looks like aiming same with creating a metaverse. Already we have seen that social media is playing major role in every aspect of the internet. Facebook is having active user count of approx. monthly 2 billion & it’s increasing.
In the metaverse, you’ll be able to do almost anything you can imagine, get together with friends and family, work, learn, play, shop, create, as well as completely new experiences that don’t really fit how we think about computers or phones today.
At first glance, it may looks like great thing, but as mentioned in book Snow Crash, by Neal Stephenson, a 1992 sci-fi novel and movie like Ready Player One, there might be the other side of coin, which may not be as green as it look. We need to wait and watch.
Meta : The Parent Company
As mentioned in keynotes by Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook with new Identity Meta will be the parent company under which all its existing apps and companies will be there i.e. Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Oculus, Workplace etc. As per Mark, it was already under plan since it acquire Instagram and WhatsApp.

With Meta, Mark Zuckerberg has moved to new role, from Facebook CEO to Meta CEO. Unlike other giants like Google, Mark has not left the top position at his company.
With Meta, overall branding for the Facebook Company is changed, but as of now, there is no changes to the existing apps. We need to wait till there are further announcements from Meta.
On o2-Nov-2021, Meta announced $50 million investment in global research and program partners to ensure these products are developed responsibly. As quoted on meta site.
Today, we’re announcing additional partners to collaborate with in building the metaverse responsibly. In Europe and the Middle East, we’ll work with the following nonprofit, government and cultural partners:
Colorintech (UK): Facilitating a metaverse competition for creators to inspire ideas around equity within the metaverse, and awards to support underrepresented creators.
Alte Nationalgalerie (Germany): Bridging the gap between visual arts and virtual arts through an inclusive XR experience highlighting the work of painter Johann Erdmann Hummel.
Peres Center for Peace and Innovation (Israel): Bringing together AR/VR startups and developers to unlock economic and social impact opportunities in the metaverse. This partnership will include a growth program for AR/VR startups in Israel, a social-economic research project and a developer community hub.
