M1 Ultra – The Beast
Apple silicon has transformed the Mac lineup, bringing unbelievable performance and power efficiency with its breakthrough system on a chip (SoC) architecture. Combining the CPU, GPU, I/O, Neural Engine and more into a single SoC with unified memory, this architecture means all Mac computers are way faster, cooler and more power efficient. Apple took another giant leap with Apple Silicon to bring even more extreme levels of performance for the desktop. The challenge was that there are physical limits to creating a larger die than M1 Max. If two M1 Max chips were soldered to motherboard, then it will bring the limitation of traditional architecture and thus will not give any benefits of Unified memory.
The incredible M1 Ultra chip actually starts with M1 Max. From its inception, M1 Max has held the ability to connect to another M1 Max die using a custom-built packaging architecture called UltraFusion. With twice the connection density of any technology available, UltraFusion provides a massive 2.5TB/s of low-latency interprocessor bandwidth between the two dies using very little power.
The final member of the M1 family, M1 Ultra joins two M1 Max dies, yet it looks like a single piece of silicon to software, so apps benefit from its extraordinary capabilities without requiring any additional work from developers. The result is the most powerful chip ever created for personal computer.
M1 Ultra is capable of,
- Upto 128 GB Unified Memory
- Upto 800 GB/s memory bandwidth
- 20 core CPU
- Upto 64 core GPU
- 32 core Neural Engine
As stated by Apple, Compared with the fastest 16-core PC desktop chip, M1 Ultra delivers up to 90% higher performance in the same power envelope. And M1 Ultra can deliver the PC chip’s peak performance while using 100 watts less power.
At its peak, M1 Ultra delivers faster performance than the highest-end GPU available while using 200 watts less power.
Mac Studio
The major highlight of the March 2022 event is the announcement of M1 Ultra Chip & machine which comes with M1 Ultra, i.e. Mac Studio.
Mac Studio is an entirely new Mac desktop. It packs outrageous performance, extensive connectivity and new capabilities into an unbelievably compact form, putting everything you need within easy reach and transforming any space into a studio. And it all starts with your choice of the ferociously fast M1 Max or the all-new M1 Ultra, the most powerful chip ever in a personal computer.
Mac Studio have dimension of 7.7 inch square with 3.7 inch of height. You can see this as tall mac Mini, as it is like that only. Major difference (physical) with mac Mini is the big fans provided for Mac Studio, solely for the cooling of M1 Ultra when it is operating at it’s peak.
The Mac Studio offers array of connectivity.
At Front
- 2x USB-C or Thunderbolt 4
- 1x SDXC
At Back
- 4x Thunderbolt 4
- 1x 10Gb Ethernet
- 2x USB-A
- 1x HDMI
- 1x 3.5 mm headphone jack
With the multiple connectivity options available, you can connect upto four Pro Display XDRs and One 4K TV. That’s fantastic as previously everyone was complaining about mac Mini and MacBooks restrictions on multiple external display connectivity.
Powered with M1 Ultra, Mac Studio brings all the extra ordinary performance benefits and capacity plus points, like,
- Upto 128 GB Unified Memory
- Upto 800 GB/s memory bandwidth
- 20 core CPU
- Upto 64 core GPU
- 32 core Neural Engine
With this extraordinary M1 Ultra Chip, Mac Studio is capable of running 18 streams of 8K ProRes 422 videos in parallel, thats insane. No other computer in whole world is capable of doing this.
Mac Studio is available at starting price of ₹ 1,89,900/- for M1 Max variant and at price of ₹ 3,89,900/- for M1 Ultra Variant.
Studio Display
To complement the Mac Studio, Apple designed the all new Display, the Studio Display.
Studio Display have all screen design with narrow borders, providing 27 inch display size. It have all aluminium enclosure, with slim profile. The default stand provided with the display allow you to tilt the display upto 30 degrees. If you want to adjust height as well, then you can go for custom built height adjustable stand (to be purchased separately) which has counter balancing arm which makes the display feel weightless. There is also an option of VESA adaptor option to mount your display in landscape and portrait mode.
The 27 inch screen comes with 14.7M pixels at 218 pixels per inch, making it a 5K Retina Display. It comes with 600 nits of brightness, P3 wide colour gamut and support upto 1 billion colours. It also have true tone for natural viewing, Anti-reflective coating for maximum focus with reduce glare for better comfort and readability, and nano-texure glass to further minimise glare in bright light studios.
Another major things to note is that this display comes with a A13 bionic chip, which makes it standout. The A13 Bionic chip enables innovative Studio Display features like Centre Stage, Spatial Audio and Support for Siri. Studio Display includes a highly advanced camera with a 12MP sensor and a 122 degree field of view. And thanks to Apple silicon, it features Centre Stage, which comes to Mac for the first time. Centre Stage keeps you centred in the frame as you move around, making video calls more engaging. When others join or leave the call, the view expands or zooms in.
The studio-quality three-mic array helps you come through loud and clear on video calls and voice recordings. And with directional beamforming, everyone hears you, not what’s going on around you. It comes with Six Speakers for the cinematic sound. Four force-cancelling woofers produce bold, articulate bass and minimise distortion. And two high-performance tweeters deliver accurate mids and crisp highs. Spatial Audio immerses you in sound. It’s like having your own personal movie theatre or concert hall. When you’re playing music or video with Dolby Atmos, the A13 Bionic chip works with all six speakers to create a sophisticated, cinematic soundstage.
Three USB-C ports let you connect, power and charge devices, from networking and external drives to your keyboard, mouse or iPhone. The one Thunderbolt port connects Studio Display to your Mac with a single cable. That same port can charge compatible Mac notebooks and even fast charge a 14 inch MacBook Pro.
So this Studio display when combined with Mac Studio, delivers a splendid Professional Studio experience for Content creators, developers or for the Tech guys. And off-course, this Studio Display can be connected with all available Mac devices like MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac Pro and mac Mini.
The Studio Display is available at price ₹ 1,59,900/-. If you add height adjustable stand, Nano-Textured glass then it goes upto ₹ 2,29,900/-.
So thats it for today, hope you like it. Stay Healthy, Stay Safe, Jai Hind!
